Volunteers
TADQ relies on it's Volunteers to deliver project services to the community.
Our Project Officer and Occupational Therapist liase between the client and the volunteer and can offer both technical and safety advice on each project.
Most volunteers work from their own homes and in their own time, but when we relocate in 2009 we will have a workshop for volunteers who do not have a workshop or the available tools but the experience to make projects for TADQ clients.
TADQ Volunteers provide a resource pool of design, engineering and paramedical expertise, plus many other professional and technical skills. TADQ’s project work is done by highly-skilled Technical Volunteers for the cost of project materials and associated costs. TADQ does not charge for labour. Recent TADQ projects for adults include grocery winches, fold-down shower seats, hair-dryer stands for adults, and cubby house modifications, extended easels, and tactile floor modules for children.
“May I praise the accuracy and minute attention to detail Mr H brought to the solution of my ‘bedrails’ problem? He must have thought through all of my needs very carefully and understood. His solution is simple and elegant, and he also took care in what they look like, thus presenting me with a very nicely finished, unobtrusive and effective set of bed-rails. I am most thankful to TADQ and Mr H”.
In 2007 alone, TADQ Volunteers produced over 400 items for individuals and groups.
The motivation for TADQ's Volunteers is unique.
There are many ways in which a person can give service to the community but there are not many ways in which a person can put his or her particular technical skills to use in the community. TADQ provides that opportunity.
The reward for Volunteers is very personal. Often it is seeing someone suddenly gain a little independence, or witnessing a first experience. For others, it is the thrill of combining technology with experience that only years in industry can bring.
Volunteers Needed We welcome new Volunteers, both technical and non-technical, to keep up with the demand of project requests. Approved Volunteers are given an information kit on working with clients with disabilities. Technical Volunteers are able to access information from TADQ’s database of completed projects where required. We are looking for Engineers, Fitters & Turners, Industrial Designers, Technicians, Upholsters, Trades People and Handy Persons. WE NEED MORE WELDERS - ESPECIALLY IN THE GOLD COAST REGION. Please contact our Volunteer & Services Officer for more information and to register.
