TADQ (Technical Aid to the Disabled Qld Inc.) is an incorporated not for profit association of volunteers, many but not all from technical backgrounds. TADQ is registered as a charity in Queensland. Its income comes from a government grant, subscriptions from members, donations and fundraising.
Each year TADQ volunteers throughout Queensland design, construct, adapt, install and maintain technical aids for people with disabilities. No labour charges are applicable as volunteers donate their time, which can be considerable. Out of pocket expenses such as mileage reimbursement, phone calls, workshop consumables and materials purchased to carry out projects are costs incurred by the volunteers and these costs are requested when the projects are completed. On projects costing greater than $50.00 an administration fee is charged to assist in meeting the extra costs associated with government accountability requirements.
TADQ volunteers provide a resource pool of design, engineering and paramedical expertise plus many other professional and technical skills. These skills are required to define the solution and then to initiate a TADQ project by matching the skills to the required solution.
Who can be assisted by TADQ
The organisation helps all people with disabilities or frail aged without discrimination. TADQ accepts requests from clients themselves or by referral through rehabilitation professionals, such as Doctors, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and also Teachers and Carers.
The volunteers who carry out the work for the clients of TADQ include engineers, fitters and turners, industrial designers, technicians and trades people and not least remarkably innovative self-taught handypersons, model engineers etc.
